From one enthusiast to another, we now offer a full bolt-on subframe kit to install your BMW B46 or B48  to your BMW E30 Chassis. This kit requires the use of the Garageaholic B48 Brackets at a minimum, which is an expandable kit. This kit comes complete with everything needed to properly install a modified E30 Subframe into the frame rails of your E30 Chassis. Moreover, the base material comes in Hot Rolled, Pickled & Oiled 1/4″ Steel, and tig welded – ready for powdercoat.

For pre-order sale is a complete kit, available to ship starting November 1, 2026 with parts required to enable this to work.  This requires the use of an E36/E46 steering rack, as the spacing on the rack currently accounts for this mounting width. It also precludes any physical interference to the oil pan as well.

For your convenience, this kit comes with the following:

• Subframe – Modified Ready For Powder
• 4x M10-1.5 x 60mm Bolts for Subframe
• 1x M10-1.5 x 70mm Bolt For Steering Rack w/ Nut
• 1x M14-1.5 x 45mm For Steering Rack
• 1x M14-1.5 Tap
• Low Profile Oil Plug w/ Copper Washer

More details on the Steering Rack Modifications. As shown in the pictures, it is required to drill and tap the driver side of the steering rack in order to clear the oil pan. This enables the steering rack mounting to be in the same exact stock E30 position, even though it is tight. It is possible and it is not uncommon for steering racks to be in single shear on both ears. This application just the driver side is in shear. This requires the lower hole to be a clearance hole drilled out at 14.5mm drill bit and the top hole is drilled out to 12.5mm (1/2″) and tapped with a M14x1.5 tap provided for this to be installed correctly. This is a service we may also be able to provide as an add-on if desired.

Don’t forget that this subframe effort pairs perfectly with our B48 Brackets kit for the E30. You can even get your own options for that as well! If deciding to procure your own motor mounts, keep in mind that these brackets were designed with these motor mounts in mind. You may procure 80A Poly, 95A Poly or even delrin/aluminum, so long as it positions the engine in the same manner as these rubber mounts (Height, offset…etc).

The modifications to the B48 Engine and/or The E30 Chassis Include:

• Subframe Jig, cut in the center and replace with 3″x1″x 0.120″ Rectangular Tubing
• Steering Rack Ear Mounts – One single shear, One double shear.
• Oil Pan Drain Plug Access Hole Added and Accounted For in this kit

While this subframe hangs low on the chassis, it is NOT the lowest part of the car! Believe it or not, the steering rack, being mounted in the same stock location sits just as low. Also just about as low as the control arm lower ball joints.

Installation is Bolt-On, with no customer required modifications other than listed above.
